2 Around Mounting

Postby Poonz » Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:01 am

I was wondering if anyone had some tips for mounting 2 around. Its 2 plates not stepped. The mounter I'm using doesn't have cameras, I'm able to get it very close but, that last 2% is where I'm off on the job.

Is there anything out there that can get me that much closer, I'm buying a new mounter but that doesn't help me with the job today.

Thanks for any help.

It seems too obvious, but does the cylinder have scribe lines? Can you make horizontal lines in the same places on the plates?

It doesn't have scribe lines, I have a Hurley mounter so I'm trying to use that to create a horizontal line. Doing it that way I'm off by 0.25 mm give or take. I found a machine shop to put 2 scribe lines into the sleeve because I can't think of another solution.

With the Harley, you should be able to do this:

Attach the dividing head to the plate cylinder shaft/journal
Use the dividing head to mark the two horizontal lines you need on the paper on the drum. Of course, you have to do the rest of the layout for registration
Mount the plates

Unless you're missing the dividing head, the semi-transparent mirrors, or something else, you should be able to do the above.

Hi Frank,

With the scribe lines was able to get it mounted close enough. Still not 100% but, close enough.

Thanks for the reply.

If no cameras.. Can you use the printers loop to line up cross hairs in same spot on scribe line?

With a mounter that uses gears or divider head, it is critical to "index" everything. Put a line on the gear or divider head and index it on the same place on all of the cylinders. I would usually index it on the key way or scribe line, sometimes they line up anyway. Also, place a line on the mounter gear as well. Index this each color you mount. Mesh the cylinder gear to the mounter gear. This will help get you closer.

What I've been doing which has been working is either 2 scribe lines or for the first process job we ran today I stepped the plates. Made it so much easier.
