We are currently using 3M products but have been shopping prices, has anybody ever tried Scapa tape and have anything good or bad to say about it? Thanks!

Have never heard of this tape, Dustin. Can't say anything good or bad. I'm just surprised.

The Scapa Tape has become very popular in South Africa due to it's low cost .
For high end work there are better tapes around ( Tesa range etc ) where soft , medium , hard are available with different characteristics ,
but for "normal" and line work with fine copy etc , it is definitely good enough ..

We used to be a all Tesa shop but got a good deal on 3M tape, i heard Tesa had a cost down so now they are cheaper than what i currently get. I was just looking for thoughts on Scappa, our plate supplier has really been pushing it, like all salesmen do!

We switched from 3M to Tesa. Other than adjusting to identifying which tape is the best to equal the 3M variations we have converted to Tesa it has proven its worth. Never heard of Scapa but with both 3M and Tesa you get a very good selection for backing tapes for whatever type of screens/line/combo printing you're doing.

When it comes to adhesiveness how does Tesa compare to 3M. The scape has give me more trouble than it's worth trying to finish off what I have from the one order I made.

Poonz,

Tesa and 3M have various adhesive strengths, depending on user preference. I recently helped a client that was having some plate lift issues. In the end, it was because of handling and mounting techniques. In the meantime, the adhesive on the Tesa tape they were using was the strongest I have experienced in my career. I was amazed.

You can download PDFs of 3M and Tesa tapes and see the different options for adhesion cylinder-side and plate-side.

The tesa "steelmaster" tapes are extremely adhesive , as they were actually developed for printers who don't regularly clean their cylinders/sleeves . . .
( More sticky than our local 3M tapes..)
